Tips for your dating app photo

Blink allows you to upload a single photo of yourself, so we wanted to take a moment to share some pro-tips on what types of photos do best on the app.

  1. Use a photo from a time you were happy

Unless you’re Wednesday Adams, an unhappy or cold expression isn’t going to get you far. Pick a picture from a time you were actually happy and people will sense it.

  2. Look at the camera

No need to give us your best Blue Steel, but looking at the camera makes you more approachable.

  3. Use a photo of just yourself

Folks won’t know which person you are if you use a group photo, so choose a photo where you’re flying solo! And preferably not one where you’ve obviously cropped someone else out - people can tell and it can look a little odd.

  4. Use a photo where your face isn’t obscured

Accessories that obscure your face, like sunglasses and hats, make you look anonymous (not mysterious and cool). No one wants to match with someone they can’t get a sense of, so ditch the obscuring accessories and let yourself shine!

  5. No mirror selfies / fish pics

I know you’ve got something in your camera role other than these, so let’s skip the stereotypical pictures.

  6. A photo that looks like you!

This should obviously go without saying, but we’re saying it because sadly it’s kind of needed. Your photo should look like you. Not you from 5 years ago or you when you put 5 hours into getting ready, but you. That doesn’t mean it needs to be a picture of you just after you woke up, but it also shouldn’t be one that looks like you 1% of the time.

If in doubt, ask a friend if they think the photo you want to use is a good one – they’re a great barometer for whether a photo captures your best self and looks like you.
